Perchloroethylene Dry Cleaning Phased Out in

Greater  Los Angeles Region

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) becomes the first government agency to phase out perchloroethylene dry cleaning. At the public hearing prior to the SCAQMD Board vote, Dr. Sinsheimer provided testimony about the viability of Professional Wet Cleaning as a zero-emission substitute.  Two of Dr. Sinsheimer’s demonstration site owners who received SCAQMD incentives also testify about their ability to successfully switch. Two weeks prior to the SCAQMD Board vote, Dr. Sinsheimer organizes a set of tours for SCAQMD Board Members at Professional Wet Cleaning facilities and Mr. Kim hosts one of the tours.  After the tour, one of the SCAQMD Board Members, Dr. Roy Wilson, becomes a regular customer.  Years later, Dr. Wilson recommends that Mr. Kim contact the 29 Palms Military Base to provide Professional Wet Cleaning services to military personnel and their families.
